QBronze144 | Kvantové výpočty a programování | 14-18. 10. 2024

QBronze144 | Kvantové výpočty a programování | 14-18. 10. 2024

We are pleased to announce our next QBronze workshop organized as part of the QCzech Qiskit Fall FestJoin us for the introductory workshop “Quantum Computing and Programming” and learn the basics of quantum computing and how to write simple quantum programs.

We are inviting high school students, university and graduate students, researchers, professors, and industry professionals. During the workshop, we will use the introductory tutorial Bronze-Qiskit by QWorld. We will use Discord to communicate with each other and conduct the workshop by Zoom meetings. Jupyter notebooks and Zoom lectures will be in English.

The workshop will be followed by our QSilver26 workshop scheduled for 4-8 November 2024. The combined content of the two workshops closely aligns with the content of the 02QPRG course held at the Czech Technical University in Prague, which is open to students from DigiQ and the EuroTeQ university alliance. Students enrolling in 02QPRG in the next academic year may be automatically credited the passing grade if they have successfully completed these two workshops.

Participants will be watching the lecture videos and completing the tasks on their own. Mentor support will be provided for participants to ask questions and share their progress. The workshop will be held over 5 days.

We will share homework via QWorld Canvas (five homework, in total 100 pts). The participants who complete them all successfully (at least 50% from each) with at least 70 pts in total, will earn their diplomas!

The participants are expected to work individually at least 16 hours to complete the following sections of Bronze: basics of classical systems, basics of quantum systems, basic quantum operators, quantum correlation and quantum protocols, and quantum search algorithm

https://gitlab.com/qworld/bronze-qiskit

The tutorial is a collection of Jupyter notebooks, and each notebook has a recorded lecture. We use python to solve the tasks and Qiskit library to code quantum programs. The participants should know at least one programming language, and they should make themselves familiar with Python before the workshop if they do not know Python. We will share the installation instructions and a few notebooks on basics of mathematics and participants should review them before the workshop starts.

Schedule

Times given in CEST (UTC+2)

Installation Day | 13 October
16:00 – 18:00 – Discord invitations and installation instructions. The mentors will be available to help the participants who had issues with the installation of everything needed for the workshop.

Day 1 | Monday 14 October
18:00 – 19:00 – Live welcome Zoom session with explanations.
19:00 – 21:00 – Individual work on notebooks: The first day introduces the basic concepts of bits, and IBM’s tool Qiskit to simulate quantum circuits/programs. Individual work with Discord support.

Day 2 | Tuesday 15 October
18:00 – 19:00 – Live review session
19:00 – 21:00 – Individual work on notebooks: The second day deals with quantum bits, how they can be visualized, superposition, measurement and some examples of quantum operations on qubits.

Day 3 | Wednesday 16 October
18:00 – 19:00 – Live review session
19:00 – 21:00 – Individual work on notebooks: The third day is related to quantum tomography, two-qubit systems and some common operations used in quantum algorithms.

Day 4 | Thursday 17 October
18:00 – 19:00 – Live review session
19:00 – 21:00 – Individual work on notebooks: The fourth day deals with the concept of entanglement and its use in the transmission of quantum information via superdense coding and quantum teleportation.

Day 5 | Friday 18 October
18:00 – 19:00 – Live review session
19:00 – 21:00 – Individual work on notebooks: The fifth day introduces the basic concepts for the implementation of one of the first quantum algorithms that outperformed the classical one: Grover’s Search Algorithm.

Homework and Diploma

We will use Canvas learning management system for homework tracking. Homework at every stage (QBronze and QSilver) will be given daily, and it will involve both multiple-choice questions and coding assignments. Participants who satisfy the minimum requirements will be awarded diplomas!
